How Long Does Laser Hair Removal Last?

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Laser hair removal targets hair follicles, structures inside the skin that grow hairs. Each hair root rests inside a follicle. Hair contains molecules of pigment that give it color. When the laser energy contacts the pigment molecules, it produces heat. The heat damages the follicle and prevents it from growing new hair. We use the Lumenis Splendor X™ for maximum hair removal on the greatest number of skin and hair colors.

How Long Does Laser Hair Removal Last?

Laser hair removal requires several treatments. How many you will need depends on the area of the body and how fast the hair in that area grows. Each session will remove more hair, and you will see less regrowth.

After your final treatment, your results can last for years. You may not see regrowth on the body at all, and if you do, it will look finer, softer, and thinner. On the face, you may see regrowth sooner, especially since hormones strongly affect facial hair growth. Yearly touch-up treatments achieve hair-free results for most people.

Where Can You Have Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal with the Lumenis Splendor X™ works even on sensitive skin, making it safe for the face and body. You can have laser hair removal almost anywhere on your body, including:

  • Face
  • Arms
  • Legs
  • Back
  • Chest
  • Bikini area
  • Underarms

The speed of hair growth varies over different parts of the body, so that each area may require a different number of treatments.

How to Prepare for Laser Hair Removal

If you want maximum hair removal with each treatment, these tips can help.

Don’t:

  • Pluck, thread, wax, or epilate the hair. This will remove the root, and the laser will not treat those follicles.
  • Bleach hair within a month or more of treatment. Removing the pigment from the hair will make the laser unable to target it.
  • Tan or expose your skin to the sun. This could increase your risk of side effects from the treatment.

Do:

  • Shave as you usually would
  • Shave within 24 hours of treatment
  • Come to your appointment with clean skin

Is There Any Downtime With Laser Hair Removal?

You can return to your usual activities after your treatment. Your skin may feel red and sensitive for a few hours. Protect your treated skin from the sun by covering up and using a dermatologist-approved sunscreen like those available in our shop.
